The coin commemorates Sēlija, one of the historical and cultural regions of Latvia, officially recognised as a distinct region in 2021. Its obverse features the coat of arms of Sēlija with a silver stag on a red background, symbolising the region’s heritage, identity, and traditions. The design was created by heraldic artist Edgars Sims.
