Commemorative coins „Synkovichy Fortress \u2013 Church”<\/p>\n
Obverse:<\/b> within the circular geometric ornament \u2013 the relief of the State Coat of Arms of the Republic of Belarus; beneath \u2013 year of issue, silver coin \u2013 fine silver content and alloy standard; inscriptions along the rim \u2013 at the top: „\u0420\u042d\u0421\u041f\u0423\u0411\u041bI\u041a\u0410\u2013\u0411\u0415\u041b\u0410\u0420\u0423\u0421\u042c” (REPUBLIC OF BELARUS), at the bottom: „\u0414\u0412\u0410\u0426\u0426\u0410\u0426\u042c \u0420\u0423\u0411\u041b\u0401\u040e” (TWENTY ROUBLES) on the silver coin. A fortress\u2013church in the village of Synkovichi, Zelva district, Grodno region, represents a unique example of temples of the so\u2013called defensive type, i.e. those which embody in their architecture the images of a castle and a religious building. Churches of this kind were erected in the 15\u201317 centuries in Central and Eastern Europe combining Gothic and Renaissance features. The Synkovichi Church was constructed between the 15 and 16 centuries. The layout of the Church is square\u2013like and is divided by four pillars into three naves changing over to semicircular apses. The pillars have a faceted cross\u2013section and prop up the vaults. Rising above the vaults is a steep gable rafter roof with triangular pediments decorated with cascades of arch bays. Four corner towers with loopholes \u2013 apertures impart to Church architecture uniqueness, expressiveness and specific emotional sounding. In the appearance of the building both ancient Russia and Gothic features can be seen. The former include an architectural belt going around apses and eastern round towers; the latter, pointed pediments, lancet windows, star\u2013like vaults in the right\u2013hand apse, faceted forms of western towers, and a steep roof. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" 20 rubli\u0173 sidabrin\u0117 moneta<\/strong>
\n<\/span>Reverse:<\/b> in the center \u2013 the relief effigy of the Synkovichi Church; a plate in the shape of an ancient seal features the date: XV\u2013XVI, on top \u2013 inscription in three lines: „\u041f\u041e\u041c\u041dI\u041aI \u0410\u0420\u0425I\u0422\u042d\u041a\u0422\u0423\u0420\u042b \u0411\u0415\u041b\u0410\u0420\u0423\u0421I” (BELARUSIAN ARCHITECTURAL MONUMENTS), at the bottom \u2013 inscription: „\u0426\u0410\u0420\u041a\u0412\u0410\u2013\u041a\u0420\u042d\u041f\u0410\u0421\u0426\u042c \u0421\u042b\u041d\u041a\u041e\u0412I\u0427\u042b” (THE SYNKOVICHI CHURCH).<\/span><\/p>\n
\nNumerous decorative bays in the pediments are an indication of influence of the Renaissance style. The Church is particularly valuable because there are few analogs (only temples in Suprasl (Poland), Murovanka, and Kamai) of such volume and space approach, while its specific architectural features have no analogs at all. In this respect the Church is a masterpiece of Belarusian architecture.<\/p>\n
